Fresh off the back of two podium visits already this year, Sweden’s Ola Pettersson is ultra-confident he can make it three in a row when he takes to the water off the Corniche for the final round of the 2019 UIM F2 World Championship taking place in Abu Dhabi.
I have never raced in the UAE, so this will be a brand-new experience which I’m really looking forward to
he said. Pettersson will be hoping to repeat his 2013 exploits when he finished second overall in the World Championships to his fellow countryman Erik Stark.
For this event though he will not have the soothing tone of his fiancé Jacqueline in his earpiece as she is heavily pregnant and unable to travel to the UAE. Stepping up to that role will be the highly experienced Swedish racer Tommy Wahlsten.
If you need a cool head on the radio in the heat of battle and someone, I have one hundred percent trust in then I couldn’t have got a better replacement than Tommy
Well, Ola got in contact for some help for the last round and I feel that he have a good chance of a second place in the World Championship
I gladly accepted the challenge and will bring some old school thinking to how we can achieve it. There are a lot of new things to look for when we race here but perhaps the fact that I have raced here myself will help us.
So, with a four points gap between him and Duarte Benavente can the Swede leapfrog the Portuguese racer into second overall?
I know it’s unlikely to happen in Abu Dhabi but I’m praying for rough windy weather because I relish those racing conditions, all of a sudden it becomes a drivers circuit and not all about grunt. A repeat of the Brindisi result would be perfect. My plan will be to return home to Sweden with the silver medal not the bronze coloured one, for me it’s all about tactics and finishing the season with a silver lining.
With the race day forecast changing almost on a daily basis perhaps his wish might just come true.
